What can faith do to a person today, and what is the power of faith? Questions like these urge people of today to look inside and find the answer in their own way: how am I as a person within my family, street, community, city? The reflection in the costumes refers to who we are in society. It reflects our concern for each other, our solidarity, vision and future.
Brotherhood of Our Lady of the Pottery
The members of the brotherhood carry the relic of the Holy Thorn. The brotherhood is one of the two Marian brotherhoods that that still exist in the city.
Brotherhood of Our Lady of the Blinds
With the yearly Bruges’ Promise (procession of the Blind on August 15), the brotherhood keeps the promise made by Bruges’ women, when their husbands in 1304 went to battle on the Pevelenberg against the troops of the French king. They promised that, if the spouses returned alive from the war, they would organise an annual lifelong procession.
