Horsemen in the colours of Bruges carry the flags of the Holy Blood, of UNESCO and of Bruges. They precede a lady: the allegory (a symbolic representation) of Bruges.
On her crown shine the Gothic crowned ‘b’, the logo of the city, and the seven city gates.

In former days, the archers’ guild of Saint Sebastian was responsible for the protection of the city.
The Virgin Mary has been the patron saint of Bruges from time immemorial. Her effigy decorates over 300 street corners. She is dressed as a queen.
